Resistance running. Get him a parachute or a sled

We trained with parachutes when I played high school baseball. I went from a 6.9 to a 6.6 60 from my sophomore to junior year. I can't attribute it all to that but I know it helped.

Agility drills are as important as speed drills though. 3 cone is huge for a DB prospect. Coaches want to see the makeup speed but they want to see a guy that can flip his hips and change direction too. Box jumps will help with both too. There's a lot of drills out there on YouTube available for free. You're looking for "explosive" drills. That's the ticket in the defensive backfield. He needs to be able to get to top speed in a hiccup. Yoga and Pilates will increase flexibility and core strength. You can laugh but it works.

Drills are great but there is no substitute for repetition. He needs to work on his coverage as often as possible against a talented kid running a variety of routes. If he strictly wants to work on his speed then he needs to start running track at Rummel

Talk to his coach and see if he can put together a drill regiment for you and him to work on in the offseason, I bet he'd be more than happy to do that.
