I think the reason they did 4 was because they are going to remake the Conferences and come up with 4 sixteen team conferences... That works for football and basketball...
But 5 and 3 would work also.... But only if the Big 12 adds 2-4 teams so they have a conference champ game...
As far as the Big 12 I hope that Ohio St. gets ins... I have never seen a confernece that is so tilted for a couple of teams (Texas and OU) in my life.... IT would make the Gambino Crime family blush....

And exactly who the frick is "they"?
Or let me put it to another way: Tell me which of the power 5 commissioners is gonna say, "Hey guys, you know what...this has been fun, but I don't really care if you guys just dissolve my job. I'm kind of tired of it anyway. And while you're at it, all those folks who work in our conference offices? They don't want to work any more either. You can kill their jobs while you're at it." Organizations like that exist to serve their own interests.
Talking about having four conferences is about as useful as talking about abolishing the US Department of Education or combining the FBI, DHS, ATF, and Secret Service into one law enforcement agency. Maybe it makes for interesting water cooler debate, but it will be a cold day in hell before it ever happens, so what's the point?
