Well you also have to keep in mind that in the most recent trips you made that wasn't exactly the biggest match-up. If I remember correctly, Stansbury had Gottfried's number his last several years.

If you're talking about schools not named Duke, even the best places to play college basketball aren't going to get up for every game.

If you came to the games during that time frame against Arkansas, Florida, Kentucky, and sometimes LSU and Ole Miss you would understand what I am talking about. Still though, some of those games against Alabama were more than "nothing special".

If I recall correctly, one of the games I went to in Starkville was late in the season when Bama and MSU were fighting for the West, so in that regard it was a big game, and that was probably the best atmosphere of all the times I've been there. Pretty sure it was on ESPN and MSU crushed us, but I may be confusing games.

One time I went was a Saturday morning tip, and there was 3" of snow on the ground from Tuscaloosa to Starkville and there was hardly anyone there.
