Well if he really does just want his 800k, it might require him not to be just employed by the school but "under contract" but I believe his contract goes beyond this year so I don't know.

Also, the newer contract could have a more favorable buyout or an equal buyout, and if so what is the difference?

Just a lot of lawyer questions (I think some of y'all know I'm a lawyer, but a decent one not like hank ) that I would want to answer before I could for sure say a contract extension is a sure sign that he is committed to the university. Obviously face value it shows commitment, but if you put the two contracts side by side what are the real differences, ya know?

not to go all holiday inn express/hank on you but that seems to be a contract in bad faith. The guy has been there 20 years. I doubt he wants to go out in an ugly manner or lie to his mentor like that, especially when the difference is rather negligible at best. I guess it just seems rather implausible to me.
