This happened my senior year. I had just finished studying for 2 exams when we were all marshalled outside.
I'll never forget what my classmate who was our outfit commander said.
"Bonfire fell. Call your family to let them know you're safe"
At that time, Bill Maher had an ABC primetime show called Politically Incorrect and used that evening's episode to make fun of us. ABC fired him as a result of the backlash.

The bonfire was an incredible event. I was fortunate enough to witness it in person.
I remember the day the collapse happened. It didn't seem real. It still doesn't. No words can express the the despair all Texans felt over the loss those families endured.
