It's entitlement. It's this "Everybody gets a trophy" mentality.
You got teams who are going 9-3 and 8-4 demanding to be included in the national championship playoffs like they deserve it.
Most fans are dumbasses and short sided. They just want to see THEIR team int he playoffs, with no thought at all to how good it is for the sport.
Making the playoffs should be a difficult feat.
Finishing in the top 16 is trivially easy for many big programs.

I'd want a top 16 team playoff because I think more playoff football is better than less playoff football.
The 8 opening round games would be crazy over a 4 day weekend. It would blow the opening round of the NCAA basketball tournament out of the water
