Has it? I think there's still plenty of good country if you include alt-country. The biggest problem is that people try to identify country by the singer's accent rather than the actual music. Most of the country I like comes out of the mid-west. The music is pretty much the same they just don't sing like rednecks.

I agree with this. If you look past Nashville, there's a ton of great country/alt- country music out there.

Ben Nichols (his solo stuff and Lucero)
Justin Townes Earle (son of Steve Earle)

You just have to be open to the fact that Nashville isn't all there is and it's actually the worst there is right now.
