Everybody said conference championship games were a liability when the SEC started it in 1992. They weren't. When the BCS came along everybody said conference championship games would be a liability. There weren't. I doubt the playoff will be any different. The Big XII just needs to add one so all P5 conferences will have one.

So you're saying giving the conference runner up a bye, won't make a difference?

That's odd.

With that line of reasoning, having byes in playoffs have no effect - positive or negative. Is that your position?

You could also end up with a scenario where the same 2 SEC teams meet in the SECCG and then again in the Playoffs. Suppose the team that won the SECCG loses to them in the rematch in the playoffs? Who is really the SEC Champion? This is messed up.
