Nutt was doing pretty well for Arkansas while Gus was still coaching high school. Nutt stayed at Arkansas after being offered better jobs, and then he knew they were planning on getting rid of him, and before they could he left for Ole Miss.

WRONG

His two years prior to hiring Gus he had a losing record. Like someone else said, Gus was forced/gifted to the guy along with one of the best recruiting classes in Arkansas history. Due to his micromanaging Gus bolted along with most of the Springdale 5. The team the year after was still talented and should have not been 500 in conference play.

Most of the talent he recruited was from in state. Why is that a big deal? You're the only major program here. Kids grow up being Hogs. Given the chance most would walk through hell to make it to the hill.

He didn't bolt BEFORE leaving. He was forced out and they allowed him to save face in the way they did it.
