That is correct. In Georgia's statute, it is not a criminal offense, although they have expressed that they are exploring the possibility. That does still leave the possibility for criminal charges.
At the end of the day, no one wants this going any further, as there are no winners if it does. UGA, Gurley,the NCAA, and the individuals would all suffer if it were pursued further. Hopefully, these guys will now understand that they will be liable in the future to quit pulling this crap on these guys. Unfortunately, these guys are easily enticed by a little money in college, not saying it's right, it's just the reality. Make no mistake, Gurley knew what he was doing was against the rules. UGA is very emphatic about letting the players know this, but he chose to do it anyway.
Other memorabilia dealers have come out and said UGA players are very difficult to get autographs from since the AJ Green situation, but it only takes one.
