Hold on. Spurrier wants Brandon McILwain badly. That kid is super.

Comment, please Rooster.

McIlwain has been on the radar for awhile - I do know that. He's considered an athlete grab who might play anywhere but will certainly get his shot at QB if he plays here.

We gotta remember, Spurrier's whole thought process about athletes like McIlwain began with Seville Newton. Newton forever changed the HBC's mind in that regard.

The came Stephon Gilmore ... the first big recruit that Spurrier had in mind with those kind of skills, a kid who could play anywhere.

Then comes Pharoh Cooper and Spurrier loves him so much he adorns him with his jersey #11.

Now they are seeing McIlwain in the same light and I do know they are going after him hard and hope to get a commit from him and eventually sign him. He's very high on their board.

The new thought process is to have QBs, who are more pro-style, running offenses with Newton, Gilmore, Cooper, McIlwain type athletes in the huddle who can offer some versatility and the ability to shift into the Wild Cock and catch opposing defenses with personnel match-up problems not being able to substitute in time.

The issue with running the hybrid pro-style attacks is that you have to have a great group of WRs, tall and speedy who run absolutely perfect routes for timing purposes. In theory it would be an unstoppable offense but putting it into practical application is an all-together 'nuther matter as we are seeing this year.

I've heard that there are some regrets that we did not shift into the Wild Cock verses Kentucky late in the game but the problem is that Cooper has not shown the real ability to throw the ball down-field, which makes him sort of one dimensional behind center. Now, they're working on that and we may see it yet but for now they're not confident putting him out there with any chance of having to throw the ball ... although he can read the option.

McIlwain might be able to do it all - but who knows. He's a couple of years from arriving. Right now our immediate options are Mitch, Scarnecchia and then Nunez with perhaps a little Nosovitch thrown in here or there. The general consensus is that Nosovitch might get another shot behind center in the spring ... but I sort of doubt it myself.
