Based on the "are you a graduate of Ole Miss" thread, I am apparently ancient as it compares to most posters here, but they will always be Memphis State to me....

I'm yet to even graduate from Ole Miss so I had never heard anyone still call them Memphis State (I knew that was what they used to be called though)

Considering that the athletic department just sold a bunch of powder blue helmets for $100K, I wouldn't rule out seeing them again. I apologize if I missed any sarcasm in your post.

No sarcasm. I assume since they sold the ones the team wore, we don't have them anymore.

I loved them.

So why wouldn't they do them again? Not only did people like them, but they made a ton of money off of them. It's not like they threw them away.

Just seems silly to sell them and then buy more, but what do I know.

Unless they are limited edition (and not mass produced), I would think that those that plunked down $1k for a collectable may get a little pissed....

Why would you not capitalize on the opportunity to make money? It would take a small portion of that $100,000 to buy a new set of helmets. The rest is pure profit.

The price the team payed for those 100 helmets was probably in the $20,000-$40,000 range. That's a big mark up.

This, too.

Except that the helmets they get we're actually worn by the players, so maybe that helps?

Correct answer. You won't get the same price for the second batch because people that bought the first batch were under the impression that those were special. If it's somethin you do every year or even every few years the value of the helmets drops severely.

Sure they'll do it again in 10-20 years. I wouldn't look for them in he near future though.
