I actually believe the "Tigerette story" that SBB posted was what killed the show. Paul let a few callers get way out-of-line with that and I quit listening for awhile.

But I'll agree with others that the WERC years were the best. Neal Vickers' laugh was as contagious as any I've ever heard. And the late Shane from Centerpoint always had some Auburn scandal he was dreaming up. Other great moments and callers:

Jim from Tuscaloosa arguing with then Samford basketball coach Jimmy Tillette (a real academician) over Barry Bonds. This was the call where Jim declared he would've been a better hitter than Ted Williams.

Jeff from Pinson: Probably the most bizarre caller ever - his calls are hard to describe and they usually involved him playing two or three different people.

Mildred: "She" was guaranteed to get Vickers going; talked constantly about having relations with Bear, Dye ("we bumped uglies a few times"), and any other coach out there. After one appearance by former SEC official Dick Burleson, Mildred called and kept repeating "I wanna talk to Dick!" My favorite call was a joke - "Why did Paul Fingerbaum (sic) cut holes in his pocket? So he could run his fingers through his hair."

Michael the Prophet: A real head case, he constantly called and prophesied that Mike Shula would eclipse Bear Bryant's success at Alabama. I'm almost certain he has recently resurfaced - he called Tiger Talk a few weeks back asking how much it would take to get Gus Malzahn to move to Alabama. The day after, he called the JOX Roundtable and asked Dunaway the same thing.

Phyllis: Two great moments from her. She called and Paul began playing the song "Bear from Alabama" insinuating that Phyllis once had a relationship with singer Roger Hallmark (or was it Bear?). Phyllis got pissed. The other was after Paul's interview with Luverne High School AD Butch Norman was abruptly cut short when Norman told Paul, "I tell you what you do, you kiss my a**." Paul was grilling Norman over his hiring of Mike Dubose and Phyllis went nuts.

The Shane and Bobby battles were always epic, and then there was Joe who was going to spend a few thousand dollars to expose Vickers' past (assuming there was something to expose).

Other great callers who haven't been heard from in awhile:

Chris from Gulf Shores, Everett, Don from Downtown, B.O.B., Bama Earl, Catfish, Libertee Belle, etc. Those days of the Finebaum show were radio gold.

Whoever that person was, I had never heard someone who could get Vickers going like that. She had one story where she got fungus from her dog down in her private area. They had to cut to commercial because the studio was laughing its arse off so much.
