Chaney is a great play caller 98% of the time.

The problem is that the 2% seems to always be at crunch time and really, really matter.

Agreed, though I'd probably put it at like 85/15.

Still though, that 15%, coming at a poor time, can peter a game away or simply negate a promising drive.

I will now say something that will be greatly mocked. But hey why not?

You want the best OC to fit the power running and play action pass scheme and keep cool under pressure then hire... the current Wyoming OC, Brent Vigen.

Yes, I know, they got blasted out of the park twice this season by Michigan State and Oregon. It is Wyoming against two of the top teams not to call the SEC home. If you look back to his tenure at North Dakota State a clearer picture comes to light. Excellent pass efficiency ratings. Excellent running attack. Very good on 3rd downs. Well coached on the fundamentals.

Most importantly Vigen didn't panic in close games. Watch the Northern Iowa vs North Dakota State game from 2013. Northern Iowa (which is an FCS power alongside North Dakota State) jumps out to a 23-10 lead going into the 4th quarter.

NDSU doesn't panic. They don't go throw every down. If anything they slow down the pace. The Bison dominate the 4th quarter, scoring 14 points to take the win. We could do with an OC that embodies the principle of not getting carried away by the moment.
