I am two years younger than Spurrier also and I can testify to what he accomplished as a player and coach. I remember him when he was a lowly asst coach at Ga Tech for 1 year and they had a qb named Kelley who threw the ball like 40 times a game and they always got crushed by decent teams (AU crushed them too)because of no run game and no defense...I watched Bama (and AU too btw) come into Bobby Dodd Stadium and tear Tech apart...it was one of his NC teams and they ran the wishbone. But look at Bama history a little closer and in the years Bryant had more of a pass happy offense with Scott Hunter and others...they weren't that good. When Bryant left Bama it was not in great shape...but when he had that wishbone and a defense that was like a brickwall....Bama couldn't be beat much. Both men are icons and there is no "my coach is better than your coach" argument to be made...ok?

I'd be amazed if Spurrier, himself, wouldn't laugh at the comparison between the two. He's a smart guy and would realize the folly of it.
Now if Spurrier coaches another 10 years, gets another 80 wins, AND picks up a couple more national championships, THEN we can talk about the two in the same breath.
