The rain probably had something to do with our limited passing in the second half.

Thompson out-threw Mason in the 1st half alone, going 19-26 for 240 yds and 3 tds by halftime, compared to Mason's 16-22 for 191 yds and 2 tds for the game. Mason's passing production was pretty even throughout the game (12 attempts in 1st half, 10 attempts in 2nd), while Dylan only threw 4 times (going 2 for 4 for 31 yds) after halftime, Spurrier preferring to ride the USC 11-pt. halftime lead and run the game clock down. Dylan could have had a much bigger passing game had SOS let him...
Those are some great points. Usually I'm of the mindset that you run something until the defense proves they can stop it. However, in this game, Spurrier was concerned about the clock, so he decided to grind it out with the rush in the 2nd half. I concur, if Spurrier would have let Thompson keep airing it out in the 2nd half, he could've approached 400 yds of passing. Our receivers were doing an excellent job of getting open and the OL was giving Thompson ample time to make decisions.
However, we won, so that's all that matters.

That's fair.

4 out of the last 5.
5 in a row for our resident tater. Strange that he's been absent lately.

This actually surprised me a little. Spurrier would like nothing more than to beat the shite out of us. I can't believe he didn't keep passing the ball and lighting up our shitty secondary.
The higher probability of victory said that grinding down the clock was the best route. Spurrier's changed a good bit since he's been here - he first wants to just win. If he can blow the doors off ya, great, but he'd rather just get out with a W.
Plus, as has been mentioned, the rain was a major factor in that decision.
