They're doing it for the same reason "Johnny Football" was trademarked: To keep some idiot or group of idiots (like Aggieland Outfitters) from attempting to profit from merchandise with that name and having it traced to him, jeopardizing his eligibility.

Everyone was saying Johnny Football. It's catchy.
"Kenny Trill" is some full blown retarded shite that he thought sounded cool when he was stoned with his friends.
