I didn't take it as a slight at all. (I am unusual for a Gump.

I just think Saban's career has more NFL roots than someone like Spurrier, who I believe is an excellent example of your point. 3-4 years as a defensive coordinator (even at a shithole like the Browns) is a huge difference from having no experience at all.

How were Nick's defenses in Cleveland? Serious question as I don't know.
