Oh yeah, those two are right up there. I just thought 2001 had a little more openness considering Nebraska's role and the SEC specifically. Would an SEC team be left out now under this situation?

You'd really have to jump through all kind of hoops to justify SEC participation. SEC champion LSU is out with three losses.
That leaves Tenn and UF, neither of whom won the SEC and both of whom have two losses. Regardless how could you pick one over the other? And justify it with a straight face?
Sadly-based on record, momentum, schedule, etc-the correct choice is a mediocre Illinois. Unless somebody wants to make the case for Maryland.
