We don't need another 6'8" guy starting at the 5. Not when we have somebody 7'2" and as athletic as Reed. He'll have a whole offseason to put on weight and train under Pearl.
Spencer and Bowers will give us a damn good 1-2 punch at the 4 though. And in a smaller lineup where both would be on the floor I think Bowers skill set would put him at 5 and Spencer at 4

quote:Spencer is 2 inches taller and a good bit longer and would probably guard the taller player. With that said if there is a line up with both of them on the court you won't have a 5 out there. You essentially are playing two 4s.

This is CBB not the NBA. If you have an elite and strong 6'8 athlete at the 5 spot, you don't need a 7ft guy. Look at the 2010 UofArizona team that made the elite 8 and lost last second to eventual champions UConn. They didn't play anyone over 6'8 any significant minutes despite being a halfcourt team.
Very few if any kids in CBB are refined enough at 6'10+ to dominate in the post against athletic 6'8 kids. Most haven't had time to put weight on to counter their higher center of gravity and few have gotten thte instruction to play that type of dominant game
