1. ECU has been a semi-rivalry for a while

Not too far from the truth. I think it started when they met on the baseball diamond for a few consecutive years a while back. Then we signed up for this series with them and their fans were unusually sure of themselves. It was kind of like facing USM a couple of years ago.. for some reason their fan base thinks they are SEC worthy and always predicted an upset. It has been nice whipping both their asses.

ECU isn't big conference worthy but they are one of the legit programs that don't reside in a power conference and could certainly hold their own vs the lower tier of the big conferences (such as an Indiana) If I'm not mistaken they routinely give UNC, NC St, and VT fits.

I think it goes back to at least the 90s when they beat us several times.

ECU's got a large undergrad population and would fit in a power conference imo. And I remember they gave VT all they could handle and beat them at least once in their series during the mid 2000s

I think ECU is a victim of geography. They're pretty much in the middle of nowhere, and not a convenient road trip for any conference. They're exceptionally isolated. That said, ECU has been better than UNC and State for a while now. While it would never happen due to the directional nature of the school and everything else, culturally, ECU is the only school in North Carolina that fits culturally with the SEC. They've got a great fanbase, love football and baseball, and have some pretty cool traditions. Plus, they're not another fricking Tiger.

BTW, Spurrier was trolling the B16, not Mizzou. No one gives a shite about Mizzou except Kansas.
