True. State schools are going to always win in recruiting students based on the lower tuition costs, and with the economy being what it has been that's become very apparent in higher ed.

A lot of administrators at places like OM and MS State have seen the recession as a godsend, because they're getting interested applicants that they otherwise wouldn't have gotten in a stronger economy. It sounds crazy, but it's true.

Actually this has gone a step further for private schools. Many private schools operate like a business and aren't afraid to do things that may or may not be ethical in order to inflate their numbers for lists like these. Public schools can't fake numbers and they have a different mission. They aren't going to go away or fade as easily as a private school can.
