And yet USNews ranks State higher. What does that say about Ole Miss?
You know in their own little dream world they have numerous national and academic titles. All kidding aside both MSU and OM have similar academic status.

I'm sure all schools are fine. If you have no desire to leave your state or the Southeast, it really doesn't matter.
I will say this, from a "national" standpoint, it's recognized that Vanderbilt, Texas A&M, Missouri, Georgia, and Florida are the so called "cream of the crop" of the SEC. However, it is recognized as well that Alabama has made strong strides.
But in the end, if you want to stay in your particular area, who cares? I'm sure Atlanta, Nashville, Birmingham, New Orleans, Houston, Dallas and so on are very well represented by all of the SEC schools.
Obviously I want my children to attend the University of Michigan, but I'm also aware that we have a 35% acceptance rate. I wouldn't have any qualms if they decided on attending a SEC school.
