Ok, first of all, I think that the comments are USC's secondary are overblown. They have been coached well there for years, and I'm sure they will have a decent secondary in 2014.

DB's it's what we do...well that and DE's.

hat being said, the spin that some USCe fans are putting on this is ridiculous. Anytime you are going to lose (maybe) 8 players of 21 recruited, for academic issues, that is a HUGE problem in recruiting.

Meh, we had 13 scholly's to give before attrition (players leaving last year/or in the spring.) The numbers always work out.

that the 2013 class is already a total bust, before many of them even step on campus.

If they keep winning like we are now, or better, how do you quantify busts?

That might not matter in 2014, or even 2015. But in 2016 and 2017, the holes from that class can be felt. That's how recruiting works in college.

What if in 2015 and 2016 we get really good players, like some JUCO's who can step in right away and start? Or what if we coach up the guys we have and they do really well?

To deny it has any meaning whatsoever, and that we're all only hating is fricking stupid. It matters. Recruiting matters.

...yeah, but coaching matters too. Great example, how many classes has UF had ranked higher than SC in the past 5 years? Then, how many times has UF finished higher in the final AP rankings than SC in the past 5 years?

Although, I bet, to a man, that they all wish those kids were on campus and contributing.

I agree with this completely.

The real problem is how it works out next year. It may workout and even help out the 85 roster the issue will show up over the next class or two. The new rules state that once a player signs a NLI they count towards that recruiting class and can not be backcounted into if they fail to not qualify. So if they do not get in you signed 13 this class and the 8 spots are basically lost.

To respond to the one SC poster that didn't just blow smoke up my arse = Obviously I won't call your 2014 class a bust if it contributes to continued success in the USCe program. But when you might already lose almost half your class, many of them highly touted recruits, it obviously hurts. How much it hurts is clearly up for debate, and we will have to wait and see.

The reason UF is struggling right now is because they had two really bad offensive classes in a row between 2011 and 2012. A lot of those players transferred out, or never contributed, leaving UF in trouble, despite their high overall recruiting rankings (made up of mostly high profile defensive recruits). This was compounded by a change in coaching staffs.

Having small, or failed recruiting staffs can lead to holes in the roster. Yes, these holes can be filled by Jucos or maybe other young studs that USCe may recruit later (maybe), but that typically isn't ideal. Also, it'll be harder for the SC roster to handle any coaching changes or injuries now that might happen in the near future.

So you can be like scrooster and make shite up about how we are stupid and cocksessed or whatever, but WE ALL KNOW, that people would be giving Florida or Arkansas or Georgia or Alabama or Ole Miss or whomever, endless amounts of shite, if they were to lose as many as 8 kids from a recruiting class for academic reasons.

That's like a self imposed sanction for frick sake.

There's a lot of what ifs that can go along with this.
Can USCe rebound from this? For sure, no shite!
Is it good for the program? No, absolutely not.
Is it program destroying? No, not at all.
Will USCe wish they had recruited better in the 2013 class down the road? Probably, yes.
