The poison has to enter the blood to do anything. If I am thinking correctly indogos are either threatened or protected species.

Yes, they are very threatened (at least in Alabama).
This thread is a great example of why people should know their snakes. Some people kill every one they see but a non-venomous snake that preys on pit vipers is a pretty good guy to have hanging around.
