I'll take that bet. I was born in Michigan and have a ton of family still there. Michigan State is referred to as Michigan State outside of Michigan. In-state they are referred to as State. No one calls it MSU.

If you say MSU in most parts of the country, they will think you are talking about Mich State, and frankly, MaroonNation, I don't give a damn.
