While I don't think you can dub any one player as the GOAT in any league, especially the SEC, Derrick Thomas would be as deserving as any.

Certainly the greatest Bama player of all time at the least and certainly on the Mount Rushmore of the SEC with Hershel and Bo (who fourth? Billy Cannon? Archie Manning? Tebow?)

This.

There is just no realistic way to compare the greatest players across positions. But to say that Thomas is a serious candidate for that label is not a joke. All the people laughing at the thought are immediately suggesting offensive skill players, as if this were a Heisman discussion.

DT was best player IMO to ever wear crimson. Thats saying something when you have players like Joe Namath, Kenny Stabler, Bart Starr, Lee Roy Jordan, Cornelius Bennett, David Palmer, Ozzie Newsome, Don Hutson etc
