Having a True Son prove ya wrong is a okay with me.

I was on the fence about him when his name started being brought up. I've said for the last (now) 3 hires that an alum who played under Stewart might be what we need and what I wanted, but it was basically between KA and Drew. No one is going to have ownership of the program like a 'true son'. I had questions about his ability to recruit (based in the decline in talent in Stewart's last several years when KA was the main assistant) but he's started to answer that, and we'll see as we go forward. But I feel a lot better about him now than I did initially, I have to admit. Keeping Gant, Wright, and adding (so far) Allen and Shamburger was a good way to start. Mitchell or Rorie would be a bit of an exclamation point. Frankly I'm kinda stunned.

I actually feel like there's a decent chance we could have a pretty good year and go dancing next season, but then I look at the youth on the roster and think year 2 might be that year.

At least I know that there will be no Shapiro types bubbling to the surface, nor a dream job at Arkansas lurking, or wondering how a guy who looks like he just graduated from HS is going to do in his first time as a HC.

Agree with everything you said. Most people wanted the big splash hire, and I was one of them. I wanted Howland more than Marshall because of Howlands past success, age, and motivation. I think he is motivated to start over and do it right, and at his age, I doubt he would of used us as a stepping stone like Marshall would of.

More than anything, this program needed some consistency in the HC dept. If Kim does well, that problem is solved, as we know he won't look elsewhere, hopefully won't be caught up in embarrassing scandals, and I'm sure he wants to prove his critics wrong by winning.

Whether he can recruit consistently at the D1 level is still a legit concern and totally understandable. We couldn't ask for a better start though with keeping this class together, and adding a few (especially if Mitchell commits).

I'm sure we all would like this hire to be an overwhelming success, not only for the program, but yes, because he is a True Son.
