Former Gamecock. Currently w/ Aston Villa in the EPL. One of three goalies named to the preliminary roster.

What?? I had no idea.

I used him as my goalie when I started playing FIFA Ultimate Team several months ago. He was great for the price.

Clint Dempsey played for Furman too iirc

Yep.

And both former Clemson players are out due to injury, which is unfortunate - Stu Holden and Oguchi Onyewu. Actually Gooch is healthy, just injury-prone and seasoned.

Stu is certainly one of the bright spots on the roster when he is healthy.

Really happy for Guzan. Had a great season with Villa this year and is highly regarded in England.

Seems like SC soccer talent is insane. Even at the high school level.
I remember about 4-5 years ago I believe it was Northwestern and Irmo maybe playing for the State Championship and were ranked #1 and #2 in the country. Irmo is a national dynasty and I think quite a few SC high schools have legit as frick programs.

I remember that too. Not sure if Northwestern was the other school but Irmo was definitely one of them. Had a couple friends going there at the time

Makes you wonder if Berson is getting all he can out of that program.

Back to Guzan, great for him.

As for Onyewu, I won't miss him. He has never lived up to the hype, and seems to always be a liability.

I played throughout high school in Georgia and always enjoyed playing SC teams in the summer tournaments. South Aiken and Irmo were the standout programs back then. Eastern Georgia through SC into Charlotte really has some great soccer.

He always played better for his clubs than he did for the US, IMO. He played well in the 2010 WC, but it's hard to know just how good he could have been over his career because he never seemed 100%.

Our back line for this WC is definitely the biggest area of concern right now, so hopefully someone steps up and Jurgen figures it out.

Think he played two seasons here before going pro.
