I kind of wanted to start a thread on the MSB about something like this. If you were a coach taking over a program, how would you start the rebuilding process?

I don't disagree with going after graduate transfers to put together the best season you can in year one while transition to recruiting your type of players in high school to start bringing them in in year 2.

Most of the time a coaching change means a philosophical shift in style of play and sometimes also in management style. Scorched earth for the previous coach's players may not be a bad thing in every instance.

I'm not sure how we're going to approach it yet, but if we were to sign as many as six we would space it out. We would look to take a couple of fifth-year transfers, maybe a couple of junior college players and then maybe two freshmen. We would look to mix it up somehow, I don't think it would be wise to try and jump start things by bringing in six juco guys, but then it's also probably not a good idea to try and bring in six freshman in one class.

We'll look to stagger it somehow, but if we can get the right six guys, we'll take that many. If we can only get three or four we feel really good about being able to help us, then we'll carry those extra spots over into the next class.

I won't sign a guy just to fill a spot when in the back of my mind I might be wondering if he's really good enough to help us. If you do that you only end up hurting yourself down the road.

Here is his answer today.

At Southern Miss 9 of the 13 players were JUCOs or transfers. At Morehead he pretty much turned over the entire roster in one month.

It will be interesting here. Cuonzo only left him 5 guys who can help him (Thompson, Hubbs, Richardson, Moore and Davis). Reese is meh and Pops is a waste of a scholly. I think you will see 3 or 4 transfers/JUCOs right away here to build depth and then 3 or 4 HS guys in the fall.
