Which is why I responded...so that OP could know that his hyperbole wasn't really germane to a short trip like a football game would be.

And saying they're friendly, god-fearing people is almost a direct quote from one of my buddies who actually had to move there recently. I'm not trying to them seem like anything they aren't...unlike maybe some.

I'm sure the people there are people just like everywhere else, but the actual landscape in the Texas panhandle looks like the set of Mad Max. It's desolate, windy, nothing grows, and most things are poorly built and ill-maintained in the more rural towns. Not to mention all the tornadoes and raging wildfires.

That said, Lubbock is actually pretty good sized, so maybe it has a bit more to offer over it's dismal surroundings. I've never actually been to Lubbock, but I've been to plenty of places just north, including Plainview, and they all looked almost surreal in how post-apocalyptic everything appeared.

I just don't see how that's relevant for a weekend trip. If you're moving there, yeah - be prepared for tumbleweeds.
