And I’m also saying, “Hey. Wait a minute! You yourself support the state-sanctioned federally-protected practice of murdering tens of MILLIONS of unborn babies….And that’s just as bad as any slavery or holocaust. Yet, you’re worried about ignorant people misinterpreting and getting offended by a piece of cloth called a flag?????? That’s fricked up!” But, you say nothing in return. (Just the sound of crickets)
Actually no, I haven't even mentioned abortion in this debate.

Right. You said that I ‘m not allowed to differentiate between the Confederate flag and the German Nazi flag because slavery and the holocaust were both “bad”. And I’m saying, “That’s idiotic. And, in addition, you obviously don’t understand slavery in the right context during that conflict.”
I don't understand slavery in the right context? Please elaborate.
The confederate battle flag does not belong on our state flag. If this is something you cannot comprehend, then there is no use in continuing this debate. If you want to hang it on your wall or stick on the back of your pickup, go right ahead. That's your right.
The current ga flag is based on the stars and bars. That should be good enough for you.

was slavery legal in America when the Civil War began?

The parallels are fascinating to think about........
Consider how the Thom-arse's of the world demonize and smear as evil the entire ante-bellum South because they were born and lived amongst the institution of slavery.
This has absolutely nothing to do with the conferdeate flag debate.
And just an FYI - Your values are not always under attack. Why does being a republican or tea person mean you have to recharge your faith 100 times a day? Clearly you feel the need to spread your faith in a forceful way, even if that means making assumptions about someone you have never even met. Another FYI - this approach is not helping the republican party.

Well, when abortion eventually becomes universally reviled, will the Thom-arse's of the future look back on all of us living in america today in 2014 the same way? Will they lump us all into the category of evil unborn-baby-murderers because we were born amongst this institution of abortion.......that has always existed in our current society.......that we have grown numb to the argument because, despite its urgency and magnitude, we have lives to live and other worries and joys etc to tend to?????
Or will the sane and rational ones look back on us and realize that, just like those who lived amongst slavery, the story is a whole lot more fricking complicated than that for us?
Time will tell, i guess. Onward.
Abortion has existed for many centuries. I'm not going to state my position on abortion because it is continually evolving. And quite honestly, debating things with you is not really enjoyable for me.

There were slave states and free states. The 13th amendment made it illegal for any state to practice slavery.
Where are you going with this argument?

Wasn't that passed in 1865? What did that have to do with secession? Help me understand.

Wrong. That’s pure ignorance…………..
Sure. Slavery undeniably contributed to the sectional divide between the agrarian South and the industrial north, but it was not "The cause” of the War in any way shape or form. That doesn't even make sense, as there were more slave states within the union than had seceded from it......... when Lincoln was sworn in as president............Where he promptly promised in his inaugural address that he supported an amendment to the Constitution FOREVER preventing the federal government from ever interfering with the institution of slavery. (Go read it. It's not a made-up theory!)
Back to Reality: The ONE single indesputable undeniable obvious cause of the War……
…..was Abraham Lincoln’s decision to invade the seven states that had democratically and peacefully seceded from a voluntary union……………coupled with the Southerner's decision to take up arms and defend their families and homes from this immoral despicable invasion.
End of story. PERIOD.

Slavery was the source of many heated debates in Congress long before 1865.
The Missouri Compromise, The Fugitive Slave Law, The Kansas Nebraska Act, etc. were major pieces of legislation that were aimed at appeasing the Southern States. The Kansas Nebraska Act actually lead to the creation of the Republican Party (kind of ironic that yankee abolitionists founded the republican party).
By the time 1860 rolled around, the stage was set for the more important election in American history. After Lincoln won said election, several southern states immediately seceded. I wonder why? Do you know?
Long story short, no slavery, no civil war.

Maryland was a Slave State that remained part of the union, and wasn't included in the Emancipation Proclamation, and continued legally using slavery after the fact. They abolished it soon after, but surely you see my point. LINK
Maryland was a "boarder state." Many Marylanders fought with the confederacy. Many believe that Maryland would have joined the confederacy had Lincoln not imposed martial law in Baltimore.

And what exactly gives YOU the authority to make this decree, a-hole?
Why weren't the people of Georgia allowed to vote on what they wanted on their own damn flag? WHy instead, was it allowed to be changed by some busy-body politician, against overwhelming OPPOSITION?
Fact: If the people of this state had been allowed to vote on it, like they were in Mississippi, they never would have changed it.

Sorry, but I loathe republicans/so-called-conservatives as much as I loathe deomcrats/so-called-liberals like yourself.
And it's fricking hilarious that someone like yourself would get offended by my words and call them "forceful".........when the entire liberal worldview that you proudly subscribe to is based on forcing people to bend to your will and beliefs.
This is sad.

Actually, I haven't seen you "debate" anything yet.
Just predictable rote regurgitated fallacy after fallacy.

because we're a republic, not a true democracy. we elect able-bodied men to pass legislation for us. in any event, the people of Georgia would not vote in favor of returning the confederate battle flag to our state flag.
The current flag is aimed at appeasing the rednecks and the non-rednecks too stupid to realize that the flag was designed after the original stars and bars.

And you were what?..............10 years old when the flag was changed?
Trust Me. It would have remained. Easily......
Otherwise, there would have been no need for political trickery to get it changed. Try using google if you don't believe me.

You sound like a smart guy, but why do you feel the need to belittle people that have opinions that differ from your own?
You are entitled to your opinion. But you should realize that there are always going to be people that disagree with you (no matter how right you think you are). So why can't we just have a discussion in a civilized fashion? I enjoy US and World history.
