It's a decent comparison but Alabama doesn't have the experience in the secondary to even be as dominant as the 2011 unit. But this will be another great defense. Regardless, I'm no longer of the opinion Sims will even start the opener. I hate to judge it on one practice, but Bateman seems more capable. Thankfully we will have summer skels and fall camp to see what Coker can do.

The main factor that made that 1992 secondary so good was the defensive line. You had two 1st Team All-Americans playing up front on virtually every play in '92. They got lots and lots of pressure on opposing QBs, thus forcing bad throws, thus leading to lots of interceptions and pass break ups. The only team that defensive front didn't get consistent pressure on were the Florida Gators in the SEC Championship Game. Coincidentally enough, Florida was the Tide's toughest challenge that season.
