I think a lot of networks add in token blackcharacters because it's the thing to do these days to avoid the wrath of the loud minority. It used to be token Irish characters, but now it's blacks.

There might be some conspiracy out there to desensitize people to blacks and black culture (I really don't think that's the case), but I think it is really about ratings and preventing public outrage. When it is all boiled down, the TV networks don't care about black, white, or rainbow; they just care about green.
