Honestly, anytime there is a "but" in a sentence, you can completely disregard the first part of the sentence and then just focuses on what he actually means. "But" makes the first clause of a sentence entirely pointless, and I head that lie that comes before that word with a grain of salt, and then pay attention to the more honest portion of the sentence.
