The trouble is defining what is and is not a paraphilia.
And no sexual orientation is present from birth. Homosexuals are almost certainly the way they are from a combination of genetic and environmental factors. If it was present from birth, identical twin concordance rates would be 100%.

Is it an accepted belief that a lot of these crimes are born of mental illness? I guess not enough for an insanity plea most likely but still something present?

Yea I'm no expert on these things but either way I think it's fair to say that people don't choose to be pedophiles. Who would choose that?
