He saw the talent, but he wanted to push both JFF and Jameil to be even better so one didn't rest on their laurels (plus JFF was a little careless with the ball that spring in spite of his talent).
He has a history of doing such.
It's not like he's indecisive. Very much by design.

I wasn't bashing him
I think Sumlin is a great coach
that just always left me puzzled since he essentially destroyed everyone he played not named LSU
