I agree with you but these things are done for the "greater good" of society. Paying for other peoples kids education through public schools is a positive for the community as a whole. Healthcare is personal and my familys health care doesn't have anything to do with anyone else including the government.

Well we have to look at it from another angle, too. Our hospitals -necessitate- treatment to someone who is dying, whether or not they can pay. Ultimately, the hospital will use this as a charity work and get a writeoff.

I live in Mexico which has a pretty uhhh, let me say it's an "open" system. A diagnosis costs 35 pesos (~3 dollars) and a lot of problems are stopped very early.

Treating illnesses as quickly as possible is a benefit, it truly is. The healthcare of your fellow citizens will weigh you down, no serious government is going to say: "Ahh frick 'em, let 'em die." And I can't support any government that does say that.

The fact of the matter is they need to be treated, whether we like it or not. Either way, we're going to pay for it, and at least in this way they will get treated faster and possibly limit severe complications because they didn't have the money and avoided the doctor because of it.
