re: Does Sumlin need to ban his players from going to Northgate

From a law enforcement perspective (some of y'all know I work in law enforcement), there are a lot of trumped up class c misdemeanors out there and basically the officers just make the arrest knowing that there will never be an actual conviction because the DA is going to dismiss a shitty case.

Bottom line is officers will make an arrest on the most technical of violations of the law knowing the DA isn't going to actually be able to make a case out of it but do so because the suspect rubbed them the wrong way for some reason.

And one thing I have noticed is that CSPD is really aggressive in making arrests on young people. I don't agree with it and I know for a fact that the county attorneys office is much more forgiving and realistic when it comes to class c offenses.

The fact is that if we had a real problem we would have athletes getting class A and felony arrests. But we aren't. We don't have any sexual assault or felony drug arrests (other than Claibornes adderall possession) -- what does that tell me? It tells me the problem is an overly aggressive law enforcement agency and not the students. I think the theory behind it is that drunk driving must be nipped in the butt and the way to do it is enforce small offenses to the max by making arrests on everything at the slightest indication of probable cause.

My only problem will be if the AD forces Sumlin to suspend players for class c citations.
