It's true Mercer is known for medicine, but that's because of their med school, not their under grad pre-requisites. I'm not saying they don't have a decent Science-based undergrad program, but I've never once heard someone say "definitely go to Mercer for their pre-med program." Also, while your aspirations are extremely admirable, you may start into pre-med courses, and decide it isn't for you. If that's the case, you're better off at UGA where you have more options if you want to switch. Also, if you ever move out of state and hunt for a job, there's a pretty good chance whoever is reading your resume has never even heard of Mercer. That's not to say UGA has the name recognition of Yale, or that Mercer people can't find jobs outside of GA, but sometimes stupid things like that make a difference.

I don't care what your parents say. With HOPE, you're paying very little to attend UGA. 30K a year on top of a scholarship is nuts. And despite what you think, you could lose that scholarship down the line.

You don't plan on partying, etc - if you are the tiniest bit social - you will party. And why not? I went downtown in a bacon costume because I could. Do the work and have fun too. You have the rest of your life to be serious all the time. Everyone I speak to tells me to live it up. I've got one more semester and I promise you - I am.

Oh I'm well aware that I'll probably switch my major a time or two, and UGA does have a wider variety to choose from, so that's a plus. I'm going in pretty much undecided, leaning toward something in medicine, but I'm very open to any other field that might interest me more.
