If I was AD, I would be too adverse to risk to fire him right now. There are cautionary tales (UT) and other developments that make you think it's worth it (AU).

Look at UT, they were just dying to get rid of Fulmer. This will be their 6th season removed from that staff and they haven't sniffed the East or even a New Year's Day Bowl. They aren't winning the East this year either.

You could look at AU after firing Tuberville and say, yeah, let's do it. But AU's good fortune cannot be understated. Chizik was a terrible hire. If Cam Newton doesn't step on campus to join a team already loaded with seniors then AU is in deep shite. IMO Bama, UGA, LSU, etc were close to burying AU for a few years (similar to UT), then Cam happened. Not every team can fire their coach and expect to get a player like that. Then you fire Chizik only to hire Malzahn who benefited from yet another JUCO QB in Nick Marshall. And it still took two of the wildest plays in SEC history to win the West.

Point being, if AU keeps Tuberville, but still landed Newton and Marshall, then something similar to what played out in 2009-2013 probably still occurs. But AU just as easily could have fired Tuberville, never landed Newton or Marshall, and finished with under 10 wins for AT LEAST 5 years, if not more.

But I'm sure AU fans have no regrets and have enjoyed the ride. And I can't really blame them for that at all, obviously.
