So you're saying NFL head coaches and GMs who were there yesterday don't think Pro Days are important, but they wanted to go in order to watch Johnny throw?

They went to talk to him and make sure he solidified it (he did). No one dramatically alters their opinion of a player based on a pro day. It doesn't happen (unless you're Al Davis).

Let's not forget all the other players there, like Mike Evans.

I haven't seen a single person make the claim that Pro Days are for the purpose of dramatically altering opinions.

I feel like a dog, chasing my tail.

It's kind of a strawman argument to say "Pro days don't mean much". It's kind of like a debate in a political race, its about not losing ground and about trying to sway some undecideds but you aren't going to win a race purely off a debate. There are other factors to consider though:

1. This draft has been a 3 horse race for QB's all along with Carr starting to make it 4. The general consensus prior to the pro days was varied. The difference between being 1st or 4th is close but in terms of draft position could be huge. Every small factor is therefore magnified.

2. Manziel had the most to prove. Many have questioned his arm and even his ability to work effectively taking the ball under center. The fact he basically made 65 catchable throws all over the field, most of which were perfect, was impressive. He took every snap from under center and showed solid footwork doing 3/5/7 drops which he almost never did at A&M.

3. Manziel had the biggest spotlight and he made it bigger. He made the controversial decision to throw in pads and helmet and didn't skip a beat. He had by far the most pub and attendees at the event and it seemed to energize him. That matters when you are talking about a potential 1st Overall that is going to be the face of your franchise, he has no fear of pressure.

4. The end result was that Manziel came away with the consensus opinion of having the best arm of the 4 QB's. That is absolutely huge considering he is the 1 of the 4 that may have gotten some leeway because of his legs but instead he showed he is actually the superior pure passer as well when there is no question he was the superior athlete.

The key though is Manziel didn't have to move mountains, he just needed to get a slight edge in what is a fairly even race. Will it mean he goes #1? Nope. He sure as hell didn't hurt his chances though and he may well have distanced himself from the others.
