So what's going to be. Good ol Murican free enterprise (people should be able to sell their skills to the highest bidder), or socialism and regulation (rules not allowing payment).

The better observation would be to disconnect from national mega business and return to local and regional ownership. Money stays where you make it and goes to the most who are on the front line doing the actual work.
Eating at a local restaurant or banking with a community bank are not socialism nor are they unrestricted greed operating under the banner of "free enterprise" to fleece the locals and enrich the out of towners.
