The incidents you cite result in dismissals from the team which blows up the "Richt is soft on discipline" mouth breather talking point. Honest question: do you think Stephen Garcia would have been allowed to play football for UGA after keying a professor's car?

I've never said Richt was soft on discipline. I was comparing the way Holtz and Spurrier handled their own players.

I don't know what would have happened with Garcia anywhere else. I honestly don't. You can make a valid argument that he would have been dismissed at another school for the keying incident. Conversely, I think you can make a compelling argument that he wouldn't have been kicked out anywhere else, either.

Whatever is going on in Athens, is on Athens. I think Richt handles the situations reasonably well, but for whatever reason that program tends to have more people get in trouble, for more serious offenses, than other places (save Florida, when there's compelling evidence that Hernandez was a murderous psychopath while there). To chalk all of that up to the overzealous nature of the Atlanta media is a little disingenuous, I think.

Is it possible that the kids going to UGA underestimate Richt up front, because of his soft-spoken and gentle demeanor? So, even though history proves that it's not the case, they think they can get away with more because he's seen as being more forgiving? I think this is a more likely explanation for the proliferation of arrests at UGA than is the Atlanta media link.

Since this thread is still going, I figure it's probably also worth mentioning that Athens-Clarke County is a rather bizarre area in terms of law enforcement. ACC is the smallest county in the state and also has three police forces that share jurisdiction. You have the Athens City cops, the ACCPD, and the UGAPD whose jurisdiction is any and all areas surrounding campus (and given that campus buildings are literally scattered all across the county, their jurisdiction is basically limitless). So, three police departments, three separate mouths that need to be fed with citations and arrests. I'm not saying, I'm just saying.
