Not going through rosters so I am forgetting guys but a number of guys that were solid contributors would not have gone to the nfl even if they had a fifth year is my point.
What is "number"? What teams are we talking about?

If we are talking about a "number" of guys who wouldn't make the NFL being a big part of Auburn's teams in 07, 08, 09, 10, 11, 12... well, then I can tell you one of the reasons why Auburn averaged 5 losses a season over that stretch. Take out Cam Newton (let's say 4 losses that year), and the average jumps to over 5.5 losses a year.

Don't see how you are making that argument.
Don't see how losing on average of 5 games a year isn't good?

Also, I don't have a problem recruiting guys to make immediate impacts
I sincerely hope you don't have a problem with that. If so, you shouldn't even be in the recruiting thread. In actuality, you shouldn't even follow recruiting.

but not all (especially on DL/OL) are ready to make that impact freshman year and red shorting a player is not all about increased eligibility. Redshirts go through RS workouts which are way better for building muscle and what not since they can lift 6 days a week.

Yes, I know this quite well. I have never advocated that RS wasn't a good thing, for certain players. I believe GRob needed it. Miller and Young both needed it but couldn't do it. Kozan needed it and it has shown. Dominic Walker needed it. Trovon needed it as well, but that was when Chizik didn't give a shite if they actually worked out.

Look, I don't disagree that if they help the team win they should play but if there isn't a huge difference, they should be redshirted.
Adams didn't make a "huge" difference on the field. His absence wouldn't change one outcome of a game. I don't hear anyone bitching about not RS'ing him.

All I've said is, when you don't know the future, throwing out the "coaches made a mistake not RS'ing that player" is a narrow-minded thought process. Even if the player didn't play major minutes. And this whole thing came from two players. JJ is a no brainer. Rudy Ford still has his available if he needs it. He was also needed for a depth stand-point. What happens if Chris Davis went down? What about Mincy? We were scary thin in the secondary and needed bodies to be there just in case. Hindsight is great and all, but people need to really look at the situation as it progressed. We were 3-1 in the SEC when Marshall got hurt. We knocked off ranked Ole Miss & Texas A&M. When JJ played almost the whole game against FA, LSU already loss to UGA. Our two toughest games left were UGA & 'Bama. We had a shot at that point to win the west. If I was a coach, you'd bet your arse I'd play every body needed to win the remainder of the games just to get to UGA healthy.

Also, from a players perspective, flat our heard Jonathan jones be pissed about not being redshirted since he was only on ST and he wanted to bulk up.

He should have RS'd as well. As should have C. Sanders IMO. But that's on Chizik and has nothing to do with this conversation. That's also on Chizik recruiting 160 lb CBs and not deciding to RS them.

I must have misunderstood your argument because we seem to be in agreement then. While I think there are obviously situations where people don't redshirt and they should/coaches make a mistake, I think it is incredibly rare that at the time of the decision it is not a good choice given info they have

I also think Redshirts are incredibly important and valuable tool. Not for everyone though obviously and if a guy can make an impact it is stupid
