but that's not reality for a 1st year head coach.

Those decisions had nothing to do with being a first year HC. If anything, the honeymoon would allow you to play for the future.

Ford did nothing in 2013 a walkon couldn't have done. And now he's a DB.

that was the plan with JJ, until they saw what type of year we were having and Nick started getting banged up... his RS wasn't pulled until after the Ole Miss game in mid-Oct, I believe.

as for ford, we'll see what happens... in-game experience is huge in a player's development... and it stands to reason he'll be more likely to contribute meaningful snaps sooner, though he may have sacrificed his 2017 season

The JJ decision was based on winning a damn championship. Why do people miss that simple fact?

Boo-hoo. If we have to wait for every player to contribute the second year they are on campus, then we'll be in big trouble. Kid will either grow into a role with the team, or be replaced by someone better. The game has changed. And if you aren't a big contributor your 4th year, then you're pretty much worthless by your 5th year.

Oh, and not RS'ing Whitaker, Garrett, & Holsey their FR years allowed them to miss a year and not lose any eligibility. Looks like it was a good decision, huh?
