He inherited a good core group of players at Tennessee, he will not have that at Auburn this season.

A team that does not "drag the conference down", gets things done in the OOC competes for a spot in the NCAA tournament.
That isn't something that will be fully completed this season or likely next for Auburn, by year 3 you will see the direction their program will be heading under Pearl (or any coach).
