Football you have a week to get tickets if the conference comes down to the last week of the season.

Basketball is the same, and most folks really attend the semi's and final.

Easier to redistribute just tickets in a week than hotel and plane expenses.

Lets say they put the M or W basketball tournament in Houston. Do you really think it will be well attended by UK and UT? Like it or not, you cater to the schools that can bring the most fans. Simple economics.
