you're not a real man unless you swap Corvette V8 engine into a Japanese car in your own garage, imo. It took me nearly a year to complete.

They charge like $60 for fully synthetic oil change. I do it at home for $30. 5 quarts of fully synthetic oil & filter = $30

I go with synthetic for longer service interval. 10k miles for my daily driver. $30 for 10k miles isn't bad.

2007 Mustang GT Valvoline 5w20 Full Synthetic and Motorcraft filter changed every 4000 miles. Royal purple synthetic in the trans and rear every 50,000 miles.

I don't change it myself, even though I took 3 years of auto mechanics in High School including having a full scholly to Bessemer Tech (that I didn't take) because my best friend was the service manager at the local Buick/GMC dealership for 12 years and over that time I got to know all the techs there. I buy the oil and filter myself for around 40.00, give them 10.00 labor and get to stand there and watch them do it while I am able to walk underneath and check everything while on the lift. They will also top off all fluids if needed, rotate tires, etc if I ask for no charge. It's WELL worth 10.00 for me to not have to jack the thing up and crawl my overgrown arse under it.

Also may I recommend to everyone here to stay FAR AWAY from Fram filters. Do some reading on oil filter tests and you will see what those things are made of.

Oh and on that 2001 F body, if you want to have some fun, try pulling the cylinder heads with the engine still in the car. My ex wife had a 98 Camaro with a 3.4 that she cracked the block on. Me and my bud tore it down to the short block in the car even though his books from GM said it wasn't possible

Not always a bad thing. If your fiter clogs and the bypass is used you get unfiltered oil in your motor. So a cheaper dosen't filter as fine a particle can be a good thing. Too, a cheap one with cardboard inner endcaps is better if you end up with a blocked bypass because it will collapse and allow oile to flow where one with metal caps won't but you knew this and like me change your oil regularly so it's a non issue

It's possible but a hell of a lot easier if you just yank it.

If you think it costs as much to change your own oil as it does to get someone else to change it, well... You're just ignorant.

Also, I don't understand these people that say "you must be poor" or some shite like that. Some people like to do their own work if they have the time. Maybe their not fricking pussies that are afraid of getting their hands dirty. Maybe they're like me and know that I'm going to do a way better job than some dipshit at Wal-Mart that doesn't give a frick about you or your car.

I change my own but I don't use the most expensive filter out there because I know how the oiling system works and on the off chance something happens I'd rather save the motor than have the bottom end come apart and punch a hole in the block.

Yeah sorry I wasn't meaning that at you.

There's no way in hell you can find a place that changes oil for as cheap as you can do it at home. Unless of course you get one of those coupons in the mail like someone mentioned.

That being said, I do both. I do my own when I have the time and when I don't I take it somewhere. The "you poor" shite is stupid though. Doesn't surprise me who it came from though.

Also, I don't even know if the filters I get are cheap or not. Normally I get AC Delco or Fram.

Not true, in an hour I can get my oil changed, tires rotated, and car washed at the dealership and it cost me 58 with taxes. For me to buy everything and take

I'm looking at 30 bucks for 5 quarts of oil + filter, then time to change oil + tires + wash my car would take longer than the extra 28 bucks. Especially since they are checking my fluid levels, brakes, and everything else

I bought out every filter that an old Wix distributor had when Wix sold out. So I have enough of the old real Wix built filters for my big blocks and race motors. More than I'll ever need actually For my newer motors I run AC Delco on the LS and Cummins on the Cummins and Caterpillar on the Duramax.

I wish Kendall still made Kendall oil. Their Kendall green was the shite.

Changing oil in both vehicles justifies me drinking beer in the shop listening to classic rock. My wife probably thinks I'm the slowest oil changer on the planet.
