I believe it was... The kid's dad posts here, and I'm pretty sure he thinks Alabama would have taken Dylan's commitment. It was reported by multiple agencies... They offered him a scholarship, bro.

I have absolutely no problem with it. The school is taking a risk by offering, because a kid may not develop like they expect. Then, they would have to choose whether to honor the commitment or look like a bunch of assholes. The kid doesn't really risk anything, because as I'm sure you know, these commitments are non-binding.
Essentially, I think the news blows these stories out of proportion. These kids show up at camps looking to get noticed. Sometimes, a phenomenal talent will show up and get offered at a very young age. It's not like Bama, LSU and USC expend a lot of time and resources scouting middle school games.

I just think that committing to a school opens up a whole can of worms. You go from being an anonymous freshman to all eyes on you. Can he handle that kind of pressure as a middle schooler? He will have to balance media demands at a young age. The whole fans tweeting at a recruit is exponentially creepier when the recruit is in middle school. And what if he decommits in a year or two? As a freshman/sophomore he will have to deal with the crazed fans (we all have them unfortunately).
I'd say qb is more risky than an ATH like Moses who can be put at a variety of positions. You typically only take one qb a year, two at most. Are you sure that he is the best prospect for your team in 2018? What if his development slows and LSU likes ten guys better? You look like a schmuck if you pull his offer after him being committed for three years.
It also makes the term "commitment" more foolish than it already is. You really think that he weighed all of his options carefully, researched the academic side, and decided that LSU is the right choice? Or did he just jump on his first offer?
I think it is ridiculous to offer eighth graders and it is shameful for parents to allow their kid to commit this early. 8th graders simply don't have the ability to make the best long-term decisions for themselves. A majority of them haven't really thought about their life plan, or what else they want to pursue if football doesn't work out.
